A remote canyon setting ... primeval silence ... flat water paddling ... secluded sandbars ... evening fires ... delicious food ... lively, generative conversation ... dreamwork ... and lots of laughter.
This year’s gathering creates space for leaders, change makers and guides to get reacquainted with the vastness and beauty of Nature, and to come into alignment with their sacred ground, where we are free from the influence of society on who we take ourselves to be and how we move in the world.
Since many modern people tbring a tendency to talk even into the most pristine natural settings, we adopt a simple, reverential attitude at the river's edge to appreciate the current that carries our gear along, the sandbars the support our campsites during the night, the wild creates that we meet, and more.
This movement from identification with thought to a reverential style of consciousness centers us in the deepest nature of the heart, not just as a feeling center, but as a gateway to the inside of everything that we see around us, so a naked openness and intimacy can inform how we move in the world.
This foundation also allows a generative process of dialogue to emerge in the group, we are drawn beyond the familiar self into the most fundamental levels of reality, where a vast, creative intelligence can speak to us through direct, pre-cognitive knowledge, and via the holistic wisdom of our dreams.
When I recently asked for a dream about how to think about the rest of my life, I was given a scene of wild, uninhibited freedom and delight, so the spirit of liberation will guide everything we do, including disrupting the expectations that people may have of what a workshop leader is supposed to be.
The vision of awakening described in my book Open Mind, Wild Heart overlaps with wisdom traditions from around the world, but it comes out of the Celtic tradition, and runs through my training in the policy sciences and presencing work at MIT, so is suited to "creatives" who care deeply about the world.
